Obtención de plantas producidas in vitro de ajo (Allium sativum L.) libres de potyvirus

Resumen

El Ajo (Allium sativum L.) es una planta herbácea consumida como alimento y, como parte de la medicina tradicional, para la prevención de enfermedades infecciosas en todo el mundo desde tiempos ancestrales. De la misma forma que otros cultivos propagados vegetativamente, la mayoría de los cultivares comerciales de ajo están infectados por múltiples virus pertenecientes a varios géneros en lo que es conocido como “complejo viral del ajo” con pérdidas de, entre 25 y 50% de los rendimientos y la disminución de la calidad del diente. Las infecciones más importantes son causadas por miembros de tres familias virales i.e. Potyviridae (género Potyvirus), Betaflexiviridae (género Carlavirus) y Alphaflexiviridae (género Allexivirus). El empleo de técnicas biotecnológicas se ha convertido en una herramienta para reducir las infecciones virales pero estas necesitan proceder de materiales libres de virus. En el presente trabajo, la aplicación de electroterapia (15 V por 5 min) permitió la obtención de plantas in vitro de ajo libres de potyvirus en cv. ‘Blanco Criollo’ con una eficiencia del 62.5 %. Este resultado constituye una alternativa para la obtención de propágulos con calidad genética y fitosanitaria para establecer plantaciones más productivas en campo.
